DOVER STRAITS TO AGAIN HOST

LHS CLASS OF 1971 REUNION DINNER / PARTY

There’s an old saying that “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”

We’re not exactly sure that was the main reason for again choosing Dover Straits Restaurant for our Libertyville High School Class of 1971 55th-Class Reunion party, but it would certainly have to be among them.

Set for Saturday, October 17, the longtime Mundelein eatery has several things going for it, most notably a very successful and enjoyable event for all who attended our ‘Cheers 51’ LHS Class Reunion Dinner / Party there in 2022.

Another plus is Dover Straits provides plenty of flexibility allowing us to give them a ‘head count’ for dinner as late as the day of the event.

And, speaking of dinner –

Reunion attendees will have the ability to order the following dinner items directly from a waiter the night of the party.

Main Entrées – Chicken Breast Marsala, Atlantic Salmon Filet and Jumbo Shrimp N' Pasta.

Side Items - Soup, Salad, Potato and Vegetable (depending on Entrée selected).

Dessert – Ice Cream or Sherbet.

Coffee, Tea (hot or cold) and Bread are also included in your meal.

Finally, those with special dietary needs will be able to discuss Vegetarian and Vegan options with their waiter.

5:00 – Happy Hour and Registration

(Note - A cash bar for those who wish to purchase beer, wine, liquor and soft drinks will be open throughout the entire evening beginning at 5:00 p.m. and ending at 12:00 Midnight (Central Time.)

6:00 – Class Photos

A BIG REMINDER – All of this year’s reunion photos - the LHS 55th-Class Reunion group, along with the group photos of the LHS Reunion Committee members, Highland, Oak Grove, and Hawthorn Junior High, Adler, Central, Copeland, Rockland, Rondout, and St. Joseph grade schools - will be taken at this time, so don’t be late!

7:00 – Dinner – Yummo!

8:00 – Midnight – Socializing and music from the 1960s and 1970s specially chosen by LHS Class of 1971 Reunion Committee Member Mike Fagan.

‘Mixmaster Mike’ is sure to have people up and dancing before the night is over.

Milwaukee Avenue Walking Tour

As kids growing up in Libertyville, Milwaukee Avenue was pretty much the center of our world.

It’s where our parents – and we – shopped and where we hung out at places like Cook Park, the Liberty Theater, and the Independence House Restaurant.

Little did we know then that more than 50 years later, our beloved Milwaukee Avenue would be recognized as a ‘National Historic District’ in large part thanks to more than 70 iconic buildings - including 40 of them that are now more than 100 years old.

Yup, our town.

That’s why we’re adding a new FREE event to our 55th LHS Class of 1971 Reunion schedule Saturday, October 17 – a guided walking tour of Milwaukee Avenue presented by the Libertyville Historical Society.

The event will begin at 12:50 p.m. that afternoon outside Cook Home in Cook Park.

After a brief welcome and overview, the tour will head toward 515 N. Milwaukee (Keswick’s/Firkin) – the first of approximately 12 stops where Libertyville Historical Society president Jenny Barry will point out when each building was constructed and what it has been over the past century.

Of course, there will be also a few minutes at each stop for us to ask questions and reminisce about what it was ‘back in our day.’

The entire tour is very ‘Senior Friendly’ – walking at a slow pace on flat terrain – and will take a little over an hour covering less than eight blocks in all.

Included in that hour will be a 15-minute ‘Rest Stop’ at Morgan’s to relax, grab a quick refreshment, and visit the bathroom.

Also included will be two five-minute breaks to explore the inside of what was Langworthy’s - and what is still Petranek’s Drug Store.

The tour will conclude back at Cook Park where those who wish to visit the inside of the Cook Mansion / Library can do so until 3:30 p.m.

Docents will be stationed throughout the house to give info/answer questions.

Please note this is a rain or shine event. Should there be wet weather that day, the Historical Society has reserved a room in the new Cook Library for 1:00 p.m. and will do a Libertyville Historic Tour ‘virtual’ presentation followed by the optional self-guided tour of the Cook Mansion.

Also – due to safety reasons with Milwaukee Avenue traffic and other pedestrians, the tour is limited to just 20 people.

Should we have more than 20 who wish to participate in this event, there is a possibility of adding a second group.

Note – all spouses/significant others are welcome to participate, however, no children are allowed on this tour (again, safety concerns).

It's almost here!

In just a few weeks, we'll all be gathering in L'Ville for our 55th LHS Class of 1971 Reunion.

That means that if you already haven't done so, time is quickly running out on making plans to attend and register for what is sure to be a gala gathering of our 'tribe'  over three days - Thursday, October 15 and Saturday, October 17.

Please see schedule above for full list of events including Thursday's St. Jospeph School Reunion and Saturday's Rise and Shine Breakfast and the L'Ville Historical Society Guided Walking Tour of Downtown Libertyville (Milwaukee Avenue).  St. Joseph School Class of ’67 Reunion

Set For Thursday, October 15

LIBERTYVILLE, IL - It’s going to be a big night for the ‘Knights’ when members of the St. Joseph School Class of 1967 get together on Thursday, October 15 at Mickey Finn’s in Libertyville.

The now traditional St. Joe’s ‘Mixer’ will again kick off the Libertyville High School Class of 1971 Reunion schedule.

The St. Joseph Class of 1967 event is free to attend and will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Mickey Finn’s Brewery is located at 345 N Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville. Mickey’s features a full bar and restaurant menu for attendees to choose from at their own expense.

A St. Joseph School Class of 1967 group photo will be taken sometime around 7:30 p.m.
