LHS 71 STANDOUT DAN HOLM INDUCTED INTO
THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
LIBERTYVILLE, IL (SEPTEMBER 1, 2022) - The Iowa Letterwinners Club and the University of Iowa Athletics Department has selected LHS Class of 1971 grad Dan Holm for induction to the school’s athletic Hall of Fame.
The 33rd Hall of Fame Class will also include Dallas Clark (football), Amy Fowler (field hockey), Kari Knopf (softball), Keith Noreen (baseball), George Roddy (men’s golf) and Nancilea Underwood (women’s swimming & diving).
We at LHS all knew just how good Dan was long before he won the 158-pound NCAA championship and led Iowa to its first ever NCAA team wrestling title in 1975.
Dan was a member football, baseball and wrestling teams throughout his time at LHS. He was an All-Conference selection in football his senior year, but it was in wrestling where he really shined turning in a perfect 37-0 record in winning the Illinois High School Athletic Association 145-pound state championship.
For his efforts, Dan was named the Newsom Award winner in 1971, an honor presented each year to the top LHS senior class athlete.
Dan chose to attend the University of Iowa after graduating from LHS and led the school to back-to-back Big Ten championships in 1974 and 1975. He also earned All-American honors three times at Iowa.
To say that all of us are proud of Dan and are elated over his selection to the University of Iowa Athletic Hall of Fame is an understatement.
